Significance of Donation in Vedic Culture-

To offer wealth with devotion and purity of mind is called donation. Our scriptures mention as a part and a parcel of Vedic culture, discussing the importance and need for donating articles and other products so what we can lead a blissful life. Donation offers enjoyment in this world. But the wealth for donations much be earned through honest means and through ethical ways. All donations do not produce results. The donation should be a genuine one, in the sense that one should not accept anything in return. Some amount of good feeling and healthy thoughts should be there when donating, and not only of what one will receive in return while giving donations and only such donations produce results. The donation should not come attached with terms and conditions, and the donor should bequeath freely, without any hesitation while giving away something as donation. For the forgiveness of a sin, people donate wealth to those who are engaged in social welfare activities. Donations given away for begetting a child, for attaining victory, prosperity and Heavenly abode is called dharmavetta daan. To provide education to disadvantaged people is a very pious act, and one can ensure a place in brahamlok by offering education to such people, he will be able to wash off all sins he has committed in that life.

A person who does not have knowledge or perseverance should not accept any donation. If a person without knowledge accepts donations it degenerates his personality. It does not produce any result for the donor. Donation should be given to a suitable person only. On some incident showing bad omen more donations should be given to negate the evil effects.
